1. Define Environment?
The word Environment is derived from a french word “environner” which means “to surround”
An Environment includes all living and non living things with which organism interact with them.
2. What are the two components of Environment?
Two components of environment are
Natural environment and Human made environment
3 what is Natural environment?
Land, water, air, plant, animals form a part natural environment.
It includes both the abiotic and biotic components
4. What does abiotic and biotic means ?
Abiotic means non living things such as land, water, air, rocks etc.
Biotic means living things such as plants, animals.
5. What are the Four realms of Natural Environment?
Lithosphere
Hydrosphere
Atmosphere
Biosphere
6. Write short note on Lithosphere ?
Outermost solid layer of earth consisting of solid, rock materials is called as Lithosphere.
The term lithosphere means rocky crust
Lithosphere has mountains, plateaus, plains, valleys rivers and oceans.
In Lithosphere only we build houses, factories roads, agriculture land etc.
7. Write a short note on Hydrosphere ?
Hydrosphere is part of Earth’s surface which is covered by water.
Earth is called as blue planet, watery planets.
Hydrosphere includes oceans, seas, lakes, glaciers, ground water, fresh water.
Fresh water is used in agriculture, domestic industries and used to generate electricity.
Water is available through water cycle process
8. Write Short note on Atmosphere?
Blanket of air that envelops the Earth is called atmosphere.
Gravitational force of Earth holds the
atmosphere.
9. Write the composition of gases in the atmosphere?
Nitrogen -78%
Oxygen-21%.
Rest = 1% (Argon, carbon dioxide, water vapour, dust, smoke particles).
10. Write the importance of atmosphere?
Atmosphere prevents the sun harmful rays from reaching Earth surface.
It controls temperature during day and night.
It controls pressure, humidity and sunshine.
Changes in atmosphere produce changes in weather and climate.
11. Define Biosphere?
Narrow zone of the Earth where land
(lithosphere) water (hydrosphere) air (atmosphere) interact with each other to support life is called Biosphere.
Biosphere is from greek word bios meaning life and latin word Sphaera meaning total range.
Plants grown in particular area depending on Climate of that place.
Animals living in a particular area depends type of crops grown. on the
12. Define Ecosystem?
Ecosystem are formed by the interaction of living organism with each other and with physical environment in which they live.
13. What are the various types of Ecosystem?
Rainforest, grassland, deserts, lakes, rivers, pond ecosystem.
14. Give example for animals living in pond ecosystem?
Pond ecosystem contains tiny plants (diatoms), green algae, small animals rotifers, fishes, shark, whales etc.
15. What is Ecological balance?
In every ecosystem, there is perfect balance or equilibrium in the transfer of energy and matter among different components, this is known as Ecological balance.
16.What is Human Environment ?
Human Environment is formed by humans and their creations (Road, bridge, building’s etc).
It is greatly influenced by Natural environment.
This decides the lifestyle, occupation, dress, food habits and nature of habitats of human beings.
Now with Scientific, technological development, humans are dominating the Nature.
17. How Human environment interaction has disturbed the balance ?
After civilisation, humans exploited the nature to greater extent.
Deforestation is the major cause of disturbance in the ecological balance,
Industrial development is polluting our environment.
Humans cannot survive when we don’t live in harmony with nature.
